You may recall that some time ago I started work on a coven of renegade psykers for use in a proposed Renegades and Heretics army for 40K. That whole wider idea has kinda been shelved for the moment (more likely indefinitely).
The most likely use for these two gnarled individuals will be in games of INQ28 / Inquisimunda, where they will no doubt be associates of Inquisitor Daubenton...
More recently, I was made aware of a relatively new game called Frostgrave. It's a small scale skirmish game where your force is led by a wizard and his/her apprentice. That's the respective roles these chaps will play for Frostgrave if I ever get round to playing it. The hardback rulebook itself is really nice and is available for around a tenner from places such as Amazon, but the full price is only something like £15, so I'd recommend supporting an actual games store if you fancy it. The ruleset is really simple and dynamic. The other great thing about this game is that you can use suitable models from any range, and that all people in your warband set out with the same stats. You just recruit others that you feel would be suitable and pay for extra equipment from your store of gold. One Stevie Boxall of Corehammer fame has promised me an intro game at some point in a few weeks, so expect a bit of a warband to appear at some point.

Plague Toads work in progress part 1
Just before Christmas I picked myself up a set of Plague Toads from Warhammer World when I went there for the CoreHammer meet up. Uncharacteristically, I've managed to go just less than 3 months before beginning work on them, rather than the much more typical 18 months - 2 years...
I love these models. So unpleasant. Loads of really nice subtle (and not so subtle) touches in these sculpts. A personal favourite touch is the strange inclusion of an outsized human shaped leg which occurs in the form of a front leg on a couple of the toads. It's gruesome.
I decided quite some time ago that I would like to use these chaps as chaos spawn in my Death Guard army. I think they will fit in nicely.
I've mounted these on trimmed down spare flooring sections from the Cities of Death building kits, and in turn these floor sections have been mounted on 40mm round bases. I needed to do this to make the models look a bit more convincing. Putting them directly on to the bases just looked weird, because of the amount of overhang. The tiles added a bit more support from below without increasing the footprint of the bases appreciably. These lads need to be tabletop legal, after all.
The majority of colouring here has been done with the airbrush. Vallejo black primer and grey primer mixed to undercoat. This was then oversprayed with Vallejo Russian Green primer. Duck egg was then carefully sprayed on to any areas that I considered to be the underside / underbelly. A rough murky mix of P3 Thrall Flesh, Vallejo medium grey and some unspecified green that I can't remember was lightly drybrushed on to the raised areas.
I layed down a base on the raw exposed flesh areas with a rich, burgundy colour from the P3 range (Sanguine base if memory serves - the label got peeled off!). The teeth, claws and horns were given a thin coat of GW Calthan Brown. Over all this, I used my "murk wash" to add a bit more depth.
Anyway, below are some pictures of the little I've done so far.

Corehammer day out at Warhammer World
Yesterday the Corehammer crew rolled deep at Warhammer World in Nottingham for a pre-Xmas meet-up:
Food was consumed, jokes were cracked, dice were rolled, and the scions of Chaos lost the day to the Corpse-Emperor's misguided sons:

We did have some back up, from the World Eaters (Falkous) and Emperors Children (Paulo) |
Look at the difference in size. I'll let you guess which one died first. |

Corehammer - Punk Lifestyle for Punks Without Lives
An excellent new website has recently sprung up, which is well worth a read. It's called CoreHammer, and is basically combining the interests of table top war games, punk rock and hardcore music, role playing games, video games etc..
It's well worth a read, if, like me your interests include getting your geek on and listening to music for righteous dudes. There's tons of folk that are into both of these things on the quiet. The CoreHammer guys also been good enough to ask me to write the occasional article for them.
Anyways, the site can be found here:
http://www.corehammer.com/
They also have a T-shirt up for pre-order, which (of course!) features a moshing space marine.
You can can pre-order yourself one of these must-have items from here:
http://corehammer.bigcartel.com/
M8, U R Moshing.
Anyways, it's well worth a look. There are interviews and reviews and all sorts on there.
