Frostgrave / Mordheim henchmen part 2

Following on from recent posts, I've done some further work on my Frostgrave war band.

This consists of minor modifications to my barbarian (adding a large shield slung across his back), as well as the construction of a couple more crossbowmen, a couple of swordsmen and a longbow-man.

The vast majority of the parts are again from various GW kits. The only exception here being the body of the longbow-man which is a Perry twins sculpt, and was a freebie at the latest Salute expo this year.  The conversion here is a bit of an homage to old school GW sculpts from the '80s, which often featured an irreverent goblin or nurgling or other creature giving a middle finger to all and sundry, zero fux given.  Obviously, the historically accurate insult the bowmen used to give to the French is helpful here (i.e. the French in the medieval period punished thieves by cutting their fingers off, I believe).

Frostgrave / Mordheim henchmen part 1

I've done a bit of initial modelling for my Frostgrave / Mordheim war band.

I've thus far produced a barbarian, a couple of crossbowmen, and a dude with sword and shield.  The conversion work is relatively light here, mainly consisting of head swaps, although they weren't straightforward ones. Quite a bit of sanding and cutting was required, along with some filling.  The parts are largely from the Empire State Troops and Crossbowmen boxes, along with some stuff from the Warriors of Chaos Warshrine and Forsaken kits, as well as the Beasts of Chaos Ungor kit.

I also produced an objective or treasure marker.

For those that missed it, I also posted up my sorcerer and apprentice the other week.

Not too much more to say than that at this point!

Rogue Psyker coven for renegade Imperial Guard

I may or may not have mentioned that I was going to start work on a renegade Imperial Guard army...

Basically, I've been hording bitz and occasionally picking up kits over the course of about a year (thus far), and this is a taster of what is to come...

The idea behind this force is that it represents some of the most oppressed sections of Imperial society that have been pressed into service. After all, the Imperial tithe comes to all worlds, be they hive worlds, agri-worlds or even feral worlds. All must pay the allotted amount of man-flesh to feed the eternal meat-grinder of the Imperial war machine.

Thus, the bulk of this army will be represented by abhumans, those considered to be "stable mutations", and feral humans and those conscripted from penal colonies.

What I've prepared here will form the basis of a unit of Wyrdvane Psykers (the unit that replaced the old Psychic Battle Squad). I wanted them to have quite a shamanistic appearance, but also showing a good amount of mutations, indicating the blessings and dark favour of the Chaos Gods. I've also got a cool idea in mind for their dedicated Chimaera transport, although you'll have to wait a bit for that one... As well as for a bit of further painting to take place!

I've used the following:
1. Vampire Counts - Necromancer (minus the daft bat wing ruff - I've had this one laying around the place for  a couple of years now. Sadly firmly glued to a small square base, now also stacked atop a round one. Regrettably, I realise that I could have come up with a better solution than this, but that's hindsight for you, innit?)
2. Warriors of Chaos -sorceror from the Glottkin kit (obviously had to feature)
3. Warriors of Chaos - Festus The Leechlord (also had this for ages, an impulse buy that I did nothing with)
4. Beasts of Chaos - Great Bray Shaman (picked up with this project in mind)
5. Beasts of Chaos - Malagar the Dark Omen (again, picked up with this project in mind)

I also included the brazier / cauldron type piece from the Skaven Screaming Bell kit for a bit of fun. I've had this bit knocking about for ages, but with no real obvious use for it, despite it being a nice little feature.  If I base it, it can also double up as an objective or something...

Heldrake conversions part 3

So I managed to get a bit more done on the heldrake conversions.  This mainly included building the remainder of the zombie dragon kit in terrorgheist form for the second heldrake.  I did do some further greenstuff work to the first one too.  And then promptly ran out of green stuff. Balls.

I have, however managed to order a 3 foot strip of green stuff. so hopefully will do a bit more this weekend!

Heldrake conversions part 2

Following on from part 1, I made a bit more progress yesterday...

I've been chipping away pretty slowly, but I'm doing my best to make sure it looks right. As it stands, by the end of this post, you'll see that I've got everything sorted out (but not attached!) apart from the back legs.  So far so good.

Trimmed down zombie dragon head and neck

Trimmed down "collar" area of heldrake torso

Head & neck fitted into "collar" area

From below. There is a lot of gap to fill at the moment.

Standard wing assembly. Less of a ball-ache to put together than I was told.

Right view with a little green stuff at neck join.

And from the left.

Into the eyes of madness.

Closer look at the green stuff filling and sculpting WIP.
