In an effort to bring a small but drawn out project to a close, I opted to plough through a bunch of ammo runtz to round things out. Nowt sparkling, I'm afraid, but they'll do the job well enough.
One of these is straight out of the Nobz kit, the other 2 are kitbashed from gnoblar trappers with grot heads. Like the rest of the kill team, they've been mounted on Scibor resin bases.

INQ28 - Ecclesiarchy Priest
All has been quiet on the blogging front recently, I'm afraid. I've just not been up to that much hobby-wise, apart from a trip to Nottingham to visit my good buddy Fulgrim, who was heavily involved in the play-testing and design of the recent Death Watch: Overkill game. So we obviously spent a chunk of time playing that. And drinking. And eating. And watching Star Wars. Good times, yo.
I did finish up this fellow, who will be a part of my Ordo Hereticus retinue, in the role of... priest / preacher / general ecclesiarchy God-Emperor bothering busy body. The model is from Black Scorpion's range of Cutlass models, and was part of a very bargainous set I picked up at Salute last year.
Here he is. Sweet beard, dude.

INQ28 Adepta Soritas Novitiate #3 - 5
It seems that in an undue burst of productivity I have managed to complete the 3 remaining members of the squad of Novitiates, including their Sister Superior. There's not much to add here to what I've said about the previous 2 Novitiates at this stage, save that I've made considerable progress on the Ordo Hereticus inquisitor to which they are Oathed. A separate post on that individual will follow at a later time...

INQ28 Adepta Soritas Novitiate
All has been quiet on the Tony of Nurgle front for almost two months. I have, however built a few models to represent Adepta Sororitas Novitiates (of which this is one) for use in games of Inquismunda. Please note that I cannot take full credit for these builds, as I based them on something I'd seen in an article on Bell of Lost Souls some time back. because I thought they looked cool, so I'd like to extend my thanks to whoever came up with the idea of using Dream Forge's Eisenkern Assault Troops in this way. They are combined with Statuesque miniatures heroic scale female heads, and Games Workshop Space Marine bolters.
I'd also point out that this is my first proper attempt at doing non-Caucasian flesh tones. I'm fair-to-crap at Caucasian flesh tones as it is, so I thought I'd throw caution to the wind and run the risk of accidentally offending people by attempting Southern Asian skin. I really couldn't say whether it looks authentic or not, and I really hope that I haven't offended anyone. I'm trying to do a good thing here, as minorities and females are woefully under-represented on the grimdark table tops of the 41st Millenium...
It's also my first attempt in quite a long time to give a model a relatively clean finish. Normally, obviously, I'm all doom and gloom, and muck and rust and this and that and the other. But, what the hell, right? Thought I'd give it a whirl.
I've possibly ballsed up the blade of the sword, though.
In terms of rules, I thought it would be a fairly strong idea for the armour to be similar to space marine scout armour, giving a 4+ save. I also thought that as these sisters will be mere trainees (another parallel to scouts), that I might make them take a leadership each turn, which, if they fail, they would be forced to pray (unless assaulted by an enemy) until their next turn. Obviously, I'm open to suggestions here, and it'll be up for discussion amongst my gaming group too...

Frostgrave / Mordheim henchmen part 2
Following on from recent posts, I've done some further work on my Frostgrave war band.
This consists of minor modifications to my barbarian (adding a large shield slung across his back), as well as the construction of a couple more crossbowmen, a couple of swordsmen and a longbow-man.
The vast majority of the parts are again from various GW kits. The only exception here being the body of the longbow-man which is a Perry twins sculpt, and was a freebie at the latest Salute expo this year. The conversion here is a bit of an homage to old school GW sculpts from the '80s, which often featured an irreverent goblin or nurgling or other creature giving a middle finger to all and sundry, zero fux given. Obviously, the historically accurate insult the bowmen used to give to the French is helpful here (i.e. the French in the medieval period punished thieves by cutting their fingers off, I believe).

Plague Bearers, Herald of Nurgle, and full army shots
Although it's been kind of fun, it's something of a relief to be finally done with painting all these Daemons. It's also been an unusual experience for me in that:
1. I completed a project
2. It didn't take me a lifetime.
Having said this (and I think I may have hinted at it before), I do have ideas in mind for all the new Nurgle kits that got released for End Times. Quite when I will get around to buying / doing this work, who can say?
The plague bearers I've been working on are a mix of the most recent metal ones from a good few years back, with a couple of older sculpts thrown in. There is a bit of light conversion work to produce some Icon bearers, and they've all had their tabs cut off in order to mount them on resin bases (lots of sawing - urgh).
I had been intending on attempting to replicate the scheme I had used for the previous batch of plastic plague bearers, but I've either forgotten how to do it, or there is some bizarre difference in quality between plastic and metal that can cause paints to react differently. Obviously the latter is likely to be science I've just made up... Anyway, the crux of the matter is, I tried something a bit different, and on several of the models went for a bit of a more abstract application of glazes and washes. I think they roughly tie in with each other, which is the most important thing. They also don't look out of place next to the plastic plague bearers either. Relief.
The herald is a proxy, which is produced by MaxminiEU, I can't remember for the life of me what the thing is called, but it's of little importance. It seems to more or less do the job. I have to say that I don't like the model as much as I did when I bought it (at Salute around 2 or 3 years ago). But hey, i was doing this whole thing on the cheap remember....
