This week I managed to finish off the third of my Death Guard terminators. It took me a weeks worth of 1/2 hour to 45 minute sessions to get through, but I think it was worth the time spent.
It's given me an opportunity to have a mess about with glazes and washes, including mixing the two together (ogryn flesh and the Lamenters yellow glaze), which gave a nice finish on the skin.
The tentacle had quite a bit of treatment by way of various washes and glazes - was just experimenting, but I reckon it's turned out well. It certainly seems befouled.
Anyway, enough talking bollocks, here are some photos...

Death Guard icon bearer
Howdy folks.
Over the weekend I did a bit more painting. I really feel like I'm making some progress at the moment, which is great.
Here are some pictures for you to look at. With some bonus background detail of my messy work table.
Hopefully he'll be bringing the illumination of Mortarion to the battlefield fairly soon.
Death to the false Emperor.

Death Guard marine #12
I'm doing well this week. I'm almost becoming prolific or something!!
Here's another plague marine, following my usual colour scheme...
Something strange has also been bothering me this week. It's had an unexpected effect on me.
A guy called Tony Sly from an American punk rock band called No Use For A Name was found dead earlier this week. 41 years old. That's only 6 years older than me. It kind of makes a dude feel quite mortal when somebody from the same larger sub-culture, of roughly the same generation pops it..
It'd been a while (12 - 14 years!!) since I'd listened to them, as they'd not released anything that I'd been too interested in for 12 - 14 years (probably coinciding with Chris Shifflet joining Foo Fighters, actually). Sad times. I've been having a bit of a nostalgia trip. Here's a clip of Tony doing a tune acoustic style with Joey Cape from Lagwagon. R.I.P.

Another 3D Death Guard sketch
I've blue-tacked another couple of fine gentlemen. Continuing the theme of yesterday's (or was it the day before?) post.
Again I've used MaxminiEU Biohazard heads and backpacks. I'm really into these, they give an interesting look to the miniature. Heavy duty breathing apparatus that seems to be powered by a personal furnace.
If you like this stuff, then you can find it here: MaxminiEU
I've also used Anvil Industries Steam Lord medieval legs, which I think give a nice pre-Heresy feel to the models. You can find their stuff on eBay, or on their website: Anvil Industry
Anyways, here are some pics.

Before I glue this together, I will drill out the bolter barrel. |
This chap is carrying a flamer, which you can't tell too well from
this angle
|
The plan with this one is to link the under-slung canister on the flamer to the large tank on his back by means of some type of pipe or tube or fuel line |

Death Guard marine with plasma #2
Here is something else I did this week.
It's a Death Guard marine (big surprise) with a plasma. I think I managed a better job on the energy coil of the plasma gun this time around.
If you want to see how badly I did it last time, you need to look at this post:
the other dude with a plasma
But anyway, here is a couple of pics.

Death Guard marine #7
Yes, I counted them up the other day. I now have an accurate idea of how little of this force I have painted.
I really ought to stop building stuff for a bit and do more painting.]
But, hey, I really quite enjoy building stuff.
Anyway, I worked on this guy earlier this week, so I thought I'd put a few pictures up. As standard, I've not painted the base. Again. I really need to figure out exactly what I want to do with these bases. Ideally I want to tie them in some how with the waterworks themes bases I've mounted some of the other stuff on. If anybody has any bright ideas, I'd love to hear them!

The story so far
So there we are. About all I've achieved in the last 5 or 6 months. Not a bloomin' lot. I do take a bit of strange satisfaction in it though.

Death Guard marine #3
Close(r) up of my first finecast model. This was great fun to paint. Tons of texture, a really gnarly model. |
From a bit further back, as it's technically known. |
This stuff is pretty weird feeling. But I reckon I quite like it. I'd been really wary of picking any finecast miniatures up due to the quality control problems they'd been having. I saw some real shockers when browsing in shops. It seems that they've now upped the quality control, though, so the fault / error rate seems to have reduced drastically. Beggared if I know what was going wrong before. Probably taking them out of the moulds too early to maintain high production numbers or some shit. Anyways, the set I got were absolutely fine. Sorry for the digression.
On this one, I had a go at using thinner coats, and it seems to have worked for me, as the fine textures on the model are quite visible. Job's a good 'un and that.
I really like this guy's head. A bit reminiscent of pushing a rusty gas mask through a load of soft wax or something. It reminded me of the last time I did that very same thing... er... Anyway, I need to eat me tea.
In a bit.
